1:19PM - best all-region player
i want to get my mom an all-region/PAL and NTSC dvd player for mother's day. i know there are a lot of hacks available for standard players to make them play dvds from other countries (i'm in the US), but she's not particularly tech-savvy and i just want something where she can play her dvds from both the US and the UK and not have any problems or have to do anything special to get them to play. so, that said, what's the best all-region player you've encountered? i'm hoping not to spend more than about $60, but if there's a really good/easy to use one that's more expensive, i'll definitely consider it...
thanks in advance!

5:52AM - online tracking?
Does anyone here know of an online DVD catalog. Like a place to input all your DVD's that you own and then print them out or just keep track of them. I know there used to be DVDSpot.com but I think they shut down. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any more websites like that...

www.dvdbits.com is an Australian website that has been reviewing DVD's for years.
With the decline in interest in written reviews, we've rebooted the franchise with a brand new podcast, featuring two of the site's reviewers, Al Day (me!) and Richard Gray.
So, if you're into DVDs, Bluray or Cinema, stop by and check us out! You can even subscribe to us via itunes!

Does anyone have any info of Nip/Tuck season 5 being released on dvd? I was looking forward to it being released at the end of last month, only to learn some shit about it only being available in a digital format. I'm PISSED. So I'm hoping there's further info on this that I'm just not pervy to.

3:43PM - curious
For those of you that have 300+ dvds, how do you stage them i.e. alphabetically? By genre?
I have over 520 now, and I'm wanting to shelve them by genre, but all I do is stare at them because it's so hard...The Da Vinci Code....drama, mystery? action?
Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless mind: Romance, sci-fi, drama, comedy?

If you could please answer some questionnaire for my media critical research study I would really appreciate it. The questions are based on gender representation and the audience of films in the horror genre. Just answer honestly as much or little as you'd like. xxxxxxxxxx
What gender are you?
1.Are you a fan of the horror genre of film?
2.What is the last horror film that you have seen?
3.If you are going to the Cinema are you likely to choose to see a horror film?
4.Which of these do you think is the most accurate a description of the role of women in horror films?
Women play the villain
Women play the victim
Woman play the rescuer
5.Which of these do you think is the most accurate a description of the role of men in horror films?
Men play the victim
Men play the villain
Men play the rescuer
6.Do you think that women can be villains?
7.Who do you prefer to watch in the role of the villain?
8.Who do you prefer to watch in the role of the victim?
9.Why do you think that women are often cast as the victim in horror movies?
10.What is your favourite horror film?
11.Which male character in a horror film is your favourite?
12.Which female character in a horror film is your favourite?
13.Which question did you find harder to answer 11 or 12?
Thank you so much for doing this xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I want to buy this DVD, which is a Region 2 Import from the UK. http://www.amazon.com/Spaced-Definitive-Collectors-Region-UK/dp/B000IFOXX2/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-6133607-3929705?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1194797245&sr=8-1
I live in the US, and the description for the DVD says "This DVD will not play on most DVD players sold in the US or Canada [Region 1]. This item requires a region specific or multi-region DVD player and compatible TV." Are many DVD players actually multi-regional? or PAL?
A friend of mine has software to rip and burn DVD's. Would that be a viable solution for this problem? Could I rip the content and burn it onto a new DVD, and then (hopefully) be able to play it on an American player? If nothing else, would I be able to watch this on my computer?
I appreciate any advice on this! Thanks!

Hey everyone. I need a bit of advice.
I'm thinking of buying a DVD box set from ebay - however, every last one I can find is region 1 (US, CA) and for me, living in Australia, that's a problem (if the way I think the whole region coding works is right, anyway).
So I was wondering - if I went ahead and bought one of the region 1 sets, I know (think) it won't work in an Australian DVD player, but what about my PC? Does region coding affect computers at all?
